Rather than following a single artistic path, Lauren Wiles-Berlin has spent her career exploring the many ways dance intersects with literature, education, film, and community. Her work is guided by curiosity, careful observation, and a belief that movement can reveal what words alone often cannot.
A Life Shaped by Dance and Language
Lauren's artistic foundation began in South Florida, where she trained at Boca Ballet Theatre and the Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts. Alongside her dance training, she pursued literature, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish from Florida Atlantic University.
Rather than seeing these disciplines as separate pursuits, Lauren found they continually informed one another. The structure of language, the rhythm of choreography, and the power of narrative became interconnected tools for understanding how people experience and communicate the world around them.
HER PRACTICE
Lauren's work moves fluidly between artistic creation, education, and criticism. Each discipline informs the others, creating a practice rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and storytelling.
ARTIST
Drawing on classical training and interdisciplinary collaboration, Lauren creates choreography, dance films, and multimedia projects that explore memory, transformation, and the emotional resonance of movement.
EDUCATOR
With more than a decade of experience in dance and literary education, Lauren has developed innovative curricula, mentored young artists, and choreographed more than one hundred original works for emerging dancers.
WRITER
Lauren contributes essays and performance criticism to publications including thINKing Dance and Ballet Herald, documenting contemporary dance while examining the cultural conversations that shape the art form.

Writing as Witness
In addition to creating dance films and artistic collaborations, Lauren writes about performance as another form of creative practice.
Her essays and reviews seek to illuminate not only what happens on stage, but why it matters. She is particularly interested in the conversations surrounding performance, the evolving role of dance within contemporary culture, and the artists expanding the field in unexpected ways.
Her work has appeared in thINKing Dance, Ballet Herald, and other regional arts publications.
Inspired by Place
South Florida and Philadelphia each occupy an important place in Lauren's work.
South Florida instilled an appreciation for the relationship between landscape, culture, and movement, while Philadelphia continues to provide a vibrant community of artists, educators, and collaborators whose work inspires ongoing exploration.
Living between these influences has shaped an artistic voice that values both experimentation and tradition, honoring dance as an evolving conversation across generations and communities.
